Shirley Gouffon helps shape Midtown retail

November 9, 2012 News

Behind Shirley Gouffon’s sweet smile is a steadfast desire to reshape the Midtown Mile.

As senior vice president of Selig Enterprises Inc., Gouffon is in charge of leasing the retail component at 12th & Midtown, a mixed-use development in the works that one day will encompass seven city blocks at Peachtree and 12th streets in the heart of Midtown.

Her vision and determination to bring a mix of national and local luxury retailers to the development is helping transform the streets of Midtown into a walkable and vibrant area.
“We strongly believe that the future of Atlanta from many perspectives is Midtown,” said Gouffon, who has worked for Selig for 28 years. “With the onslaught of multifamily development that’s occurred in Midtown over the last five to 10 years, we feel the stage is beautifully set to begin creating a dynamic and exciting street-front retail shopping, entertainment and dining destination.”
And that’s what Gouffon has done.
Selig has joined with Daniel Corp. to complete two phases of the 12th & Midtown development. The third phase, an apartment tower called 77 12th Street, is in the works.
Today, phase one of 12th & Midtown is 90 percent leased. Phase two is about70 percent leased, Gouffon said.
