‘A lack of supply’: Why this developer added housing next to its Cobb County shopping center

Over two decades ago, Selig Enterprises bought 28 acres in Powder Springs, a suburb 25 miles west of Atlanta in southwest Cobb County.

The Atlanta real estate company developed a shopping center on a piece of the property and held the remaining acres to build more retail space.

But as time went on, retail properties evolved. More recently, several companies have expanded into areas outside Atlanta’s urban core. Job growth is coming from film and entertainment, clean tech and health care.

West of Downtown, some areas that intended to remain more rural have faced new realities.

Powder Springs is one of those cities that needed more housing. So Selig Enterprises adapted.
