Central Atlanta Progress hoped to make a statement with its move to the top floor of 84 Walton Street, a building that once served as headquarters for the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic Railroad.
“Our job is to help attract private capital, to promote adaptive reuse,” CAP President A.J. Robinson said in an interview with Atlanta Business Chronicle.
“As a redevelopment agency, [we] felt we could lead by example,” he added.
Robinson announced the relocation at the organization’s annual meeting at the Georgia World Congress Center March 19.
Central Atlanta Progress is moving from the Hurt Building on Edgewood Avenue, where it has been a tenant since 1988.
Its lease was up for renewal in July, and it thought after more than two decades in the same place that it was time for a change. CAP negotiated a new deal with 84 Walton Street owner Selig Enterprises Inc.
